"Unless Islam is willing to make that conscious decision, then we are going to be at war for a long time." this statement was said by Rick Santorum on January, 2007. It is when I read things like this, I think "Who is Islam?" ... The -crazy stupid ignorant- people that talk about IZLAM ;p as if it is a being that they need to discuss things with, that really causes me to crack up.
Since we tend to call boys and girls by the name Islam, like some people call their kid Christian, I say we get those people desperate to discuss democracy, women rights and the like with IZLAM, and we will put them on a round table with someone actually named Islam -girl or boy- and let them discuss the pressing matters!
The thing that really gets on my nerves, is how people like Santorum, 'Pastor' Terry Jones and the like generalize and stereotype Muslims as if we are one person, not different people, from different races, ethnicities and countries . Sometimes I wonder, if Rick Santorum declares a war on Islam, who would he exactly fight?
The Middle East -since people usually confuse between the Middle East and the Islamic world, although the countries with the greatest number of Muslims IRONICALLY are not Arab, Less than 20 per cent of Muslims are Arabs. Almost half of the world’s Muslims live in South and Southeast Asia!. Would they fight Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mauritania? Saudi, Gulf countries? Muslim Americans? Or like Rick Santorum calls them 'Islamic Europeans'?
How can you be in war with a 1.6 billion people and how will you be able to spot them on the map, dude? Sometimes I think if it was not for the occasional bearded Muslim men and the Veiled women, it would have been impossible to racially profile us in airports for -wait for it- RANDOM checks.
For me, people like Rick Santorum and Terry Jones are equal -in ideology- to crazy fanatics that believe Islam is not the religion of Peace. Both believe in the Radical, the War, the killing, they have an identical perspective on what -mistakenly- Islam is?
What is Islam? I will tell you, "Islam" means "peace through the submission to God", it is the Religion that has 5 pillars -a lifestyle- that teaches you to be good and to do good. There are five pillars of practice in Islam. These practices must be undertaken with the best of effort in order to be considered a true Muslim:

1) Shahadah - declaration of faith in the oneness of God and that Mohamed PBUH is the last prophet of God.Islam is the religion that enables every Muslim to be very close to Allah, we do not have Hierarchy in religion, Prophet Mohamed PBUH is the prophet, he delivered his message, and every Muslim is as close to Allah -God- as anyone else, all she/ he has to do is to talk to Allah, to pray and to know that Allah will answer his/her prayer. "2:186 وإذا سألك عبادي عني فإني قريب أجيب دعوة الداع إذا دعان فليستجيبوا لي وليؤمنوا بي لعلهم يرشدون And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. 2:186"
2) Formal prayer five times a day.
3) Fasting during the daylight hours in the month of Ramadan.
4) Poor-due "tax" - 2.5% of one's savings given to the needy at the end of each year.
5) Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once, if physically and financially able.
